https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=829019 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=829019#c0 Summary: intel_pstate never scale down, CPU always in cpu_freq_max Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 13.1 Milestone 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: aginies@suse.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- i have got a laptop with ivy bridge i7-2760QM, using the kernel 3.10.0-2.gc5ad3f9-desktop and intel_pstate (default now) my CPU never scale down even if my governor is in powersave mode: --------------- cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor powersave --------------- It is in "boost" mode, at >3.2Gz, even if there no charge on the system. I have tried with the openSUSE12.3 (kernel 3.7.10-28.gadf31bb-desktop) with acpi_cpufreq my CPU scale down to 800Mhz. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

My CPU is no more in boost mode. With the latest kernel? But then this is not fixed upstream? How do you monitor whether your CPU(s) enter boost mode? You can use the cpupower package and do: cat /dev/zero >/dev/null # Utilize on core to 100% CPU usage cpupower monitor
Then one core should be at 100% (boosted) while the others are idle entering deep sleep states. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

i have previously checked the CPU freq with /proc/cpuinfo Yes, this does not work. Boost mode can not be read out immediately from HW, It has to be calculated between 2 reads over a specific time (by default 1 sec with cpupower monitor).
-> keeping resovled upstream state of the bug, everything is fine, at least in latest mainline kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
