[Bug 218765] New: x60 with intel 945 GM does not work with external monitor and 1680x1050
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218765 Summary: x60 with intel 945 GM does not work with external monitor and 1680x1050 Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: hmacht@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de When attaching an Phillips Brilliance 200W monitor via an analogue adapter to an Thinkpad X60, sax2 doesn't come up. After executing 'sax2 -r' when booting with the monitor attached, the screen of the monitor just remains black, a window from the monitor is telling me something similar to this: 'Can't display resolution, please change it to 1680x1050'. I have to switch back to console 1 manually to terminate sax2. I already tried to override the BIOS resolution with 915resolution, but this didn't have any effect. Package versions: root@homac2:~ # rpm -q sax2 sax2-8.1-53 root@homac2:~ # rpm -qa xorg-x11-server xorg-x11-server-7.2-17 root@homac2:~ # Attaching logfiles... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Only about 1/6 of the screen (left side) is occupied. So I think this is a monitor issue? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The Intel driver is not capable of doing 1680x1050 with the timings the monitor requires. The picture has a black area at the left and the right side. I saw this the first time when people tried to get their philips crapware running on the intel crapware. Sorry I see no possiblity to fix this -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218765 ------- Comment #8 from ms@novell.com 2006-11-07 09:25 MST ------- Holger I'm really sorry but I think we cannot fix this. The Phillips display works best using the timings it provides in the DDC record. The display has a very small range where it operates correctly in 1680x1050 (that's the reason why I said it's crapware) The i810 driver requires the BIOS to be able to display this resolution but the BIOS decide for the timings as well and this timings doesn't correspond with the ones the display needs. The result is what you have seen (because i810 requires the bios I said it's crap) I'm really sorry but combining both is always a poor story :( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
