[Bug 547978] New: openSUSE 11.2 RC1 - Connetion to smpppd broken with ethernet connections (cinternet, qinternet, kinternet)
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=547978 Summary: openSUSE 11.2 RC1 - Connetion to smpppd broken with ethernet connections (cinternet, qinternet, kinternet) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: AxelKoellhofer@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; de) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.00 Before describing the problem, I must clearly state, that these test installations are virtual machines, and were gradual updates from Milestone 2 or 3 instead of clean installations. I also asked for users to reproduce on real hardware, but got no response. http://forums.opensuse.org/pre-release-beta/422818-opensuse-11-2-m8-smpppd-b... This problem was also present on Milestones 8 (and 7 IIRC) but not on the earliest ones (unfortunately, I can not name the last working version directly). Using ifup with user control via cinternet/qinternet/kinternet has always been my main method for configuring any kind of network interfaces. My user is allowed to connect to smpppd polkit-auth --explicit-detail org.opensuse.smpppd.connect Authorized: Yes Scope: Indefinitely Obtained: Thu Sep 10 12:53:44 2009 by auth as root (uid 0) - the respective interface is configured to allow access grep USERCONTROL /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 USERCONTROL='yes' - smpppd is running /usr/sbin/rcsmpppd status Checking for SMPPPD: running ps aux|grep smpppd|grep -v grep root 8793 0.3 0.1 5216 1232 ? Ss 17:36 0:04 smpppd - However, controlling ethernet connections via cinternet/kinternet/qinternet is not possible, they don't even show up in any of the frontends named above. As user I get cinternet -I --verbose trying to connect local smpppd Even as root there is no output, so missing permissions can be excluded. su - -c "cinternet -I --verbose" Passwort: trying to connect local smpppd - However, dialin connections like DSL show the respective interface via cinternet: cinternet -I --verbose trying to connect local smpppd 01 i dsl0 su - -c "cinternet -I --verbose" Passwort: trying to connect local smpppd 01 i dsl0 These were only dummies, I could not test them for funtionality. The package smpppd does not show any major changes after I noticed the problem, so I suspect the reason for this problem located somewhere else. Using ifup via smpppd/frontend as a user is maybe no longer the "main" way to configure your network but still a main feature, I set the report to "Major". Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. install smpppd 2. switch to "Traditional Method with ifup" and configure your network interface ethX or wlanX with enabled user control 3. try to contrl them via cinternet or k/qinternet (which don't show any controllable ethernet interfaces also) Actual Results: There is no way to control ethernet connections (only tested for wired but I expect the same behavior for wireless, too) via smpppd-frontends like cinternet/qinternet/kinternet. Expected Results: When using the traditional method with ifup and setting "Enable Device Control for Non-root User Via KInternet", a "normal" users granted access via Policykit should be able to control those connections via one of the smpppd-frontends named above. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
