After Gnome was done, used software installer to install the KDE logon manager, Kate, and a bunch of other KDE software. Logout and reboot. Session list still does not show KDE as even possible. Which livecd did you install from? Gnome RC1
Is kdebase4-session installed? No, it was not. I installed KDM and KDM branding because the description says "login session manager" There appears to be a significant dependency debacle
What if you reboot? After installing kdebase4-session I have 2 KDE Plasma options appearing in the login session, so, something really does seem hosed.

Is kdebase4-session installed? No, it was not. I installed KDM and KDM branding because the description says "login session manager" There appears to be a significant dependency debacle KDM should not depend on entire workspace, as weird as it sounds, you can use it with other sessions, and not use KDE. Closing as invalid
