http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=612487 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=612487#c0 Summary: Firefox not reading system proxy settings Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Milestone 7 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: badshah400@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100513 SUSE/3.6.4-1.11 Firefox/3.6.4 Firefox is unable to read system proxy settings set-up from YaST's proxy settings. I have "Use system proxy settings" selected in firefox's proxy options, but it onle reads proxies after I manually set the proxy to the same as that I had in YaST. This used to work in 11.2 and in all previous milestone releases for 11.3. GNOME is able to pick-up the system proxy settings automatically so I think this is not a problem with YaST's proxy setting module, rather a problem with firefox. Could you give some more information? Firefox in Factory/11.3 is supposed to use libproxy to ask for the proxies to use. What do you see not working. From the above I gather that you have static proxies set via yast/environment and need to use them. And Firefox fails to connect to the internet via using the proxies?
Yes, that is correct. I have to use static proxies, and firefox fails to connect to websites when I set "use system proxy" in its options. If I set the proxy address (same proxy as entered in YaST) manually instead, firefox works. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please also install the package libproxy-tools and provide the output of _PX_DEBUG=1 proxy http://www.google.com
This will query libproxy to reply which configuration gnome is replying back.
OK. So here is the output you wanted:- ---------------- Using config: 22gnome_config_extension Using ignore: localhost,127.0.0.1 Config is: http://192.168.3.20:3100 http://192.168.3.20:3100 ---------------- So I guess Gnome is returning the correct proxy, which is also why the weather and temperature in the clock applet show up as soon as I set the proxy in YaST and re-login, right? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Atri, can you please install the packages from: http://www.rosenauer.org/mozilla/ to your 11.3/Factory system and run Firefox from a terminal. You should get proxy related output when you use Firefox afterwards. Please paste it here.
OK. I installed the packages from the above link. There were dependency problems due to the version numbering, but I forced the installation without any adverse effects. So now when I run firefox from the terminal there is no proxy related output at all if I have the option "Use system proxy"; only output I get is this ------------- *** nss-shared-helper: Shared database disabled (set NSS_USE_SHARED_DB to enable). ------------- If I manually set the proxy then firefox is able to browse websites and the proxy output is as follows:- ------------- returned PAC proxy string: proxy 192.168.3.20:3100 returned PAC proxy string: proxy 192.168.3.20:3100 returned PAC proxy string: proxy 192.168.3.20:3100 returned PAC proxy string: proxy 192.168.3.20:3100 returned PAC proxy string: proxy 192.168.3.20:3100 returned PAC proxy string: proxy 192.168.3.20:3100 returned PAC proxy string: proxy 192.168.3.20:3100 returned PAC proxy string: proxy 192.168.3.20:3100 returned PAC proxy string: proxy 192.168.3.20:3100 ------------- -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Anyways, as for the result of what you asked for:-
about:config -> network.proxy.type
status - default type - integer value - 5
Ok, sorry, I need to ask more questions still. network.proxy.type = 5 means that libproxy should be used. So this setting together with the output and your results means that everything works correctly. I have two settings in the UI: 'Auto-detect prxy settings for this network' 'Use system proxy settings' The latter should reflect type 5. Can you confirm that the selection is displayed that way in your UI. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
