[Bug 621751] New: xmms won't install, missing dependencies
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621751 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621751#c0 Summary: xmms won't install, missing dependencies Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: RC 2 Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: kbrannen@pwhome.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100611 SUSE/3.6.4-3.2 Firefox/3.6.4 There is a package called "xmms" and if you try to install it, you get an error saying "nothing provides libgdk-1.2.so.0 needed by xmms-1.2.11-1.pm.3.1.i586". libgdk-1.2 is not in opensuse-11.2rc2, nor is libgtk-1.2 and libglib-1.2 and probably other stuff too, as xmms is an old app. Because it is missing dependencies, it needs to be removed from the release/image. You probably also need to remove xmms-devel and xmms-lib for the same reasons. This is easily duplicated by bringing up YaST2 and trying to install "xmms" (not be confused with "xmms2"). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.bring up YaST2 2.try to install "xmms" (not be confused with "xmms2") -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #2 from Kevin Brannen
We dropped gtk1.
You can install gtk1 manually somewhere from OBS repo.
Yes, I understand you dropped gtk1, I wasn't asking to add them. What I'm asking is that to improve openSuse, you remove the 3 "xmms" packages from the release. They are broken and I know you have no plans to make them work. So why frustrate people by having broken packages there to be picked with no way to resolve the dependencies? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
