[Bug 876249] New: virt-manager cannot connect: Error polling connection 'qemu:///system': An error occurred, but the cause is unknown
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876249 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876249#c0 Summary: virt-manager cannot connect: Error polling connection 'qemu:///system': An error occurred, but the cause is unknown Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 13.2 Milestone 0 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KVM AssignedTo: kvm-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: carthexis@yahoo.de QAContact: jdouglas@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 I noticed that I can no longer use my KVM-based virtual machines, which previously (that is a few months and a couple of "zypper dup" Tumbleweed updates ago) used to work All I get is a very unhelpful message from virt-manager (after I entered my root password), namely: Error polling connection 'qemu:///system': An error occurred, but the cause is unknown This is accompanied by the following lines in /var/log/messages: 2014-05-04T01:04:06.885150+02:00 host polkitd[946]: Operator of unix-session:2 successfully authenticated as unix-user:root to gain TEMPORARY authorization for action org.libvirt.unix.manage for unix-process:7404:306943 [/usr/bin/python2 -tt /usr/share/virt-manager/virt-manager] (owned by unix-user:user) 2014-05-04T01:03:52.774828+02:00 host libvirtd[1551]: message repeated 5 times: [ End of file while reading data: Input/output error] 2014-05-04T01:04:07.303770+02:00 host libvirtd[1551]: internal error: domain event 3 not registered which might or might not be relevant to this. On another machine with the same (that is, up to date as of 2014-05-04) version of openSUSE Tumbleweed the virtualization still works! I tried removing all libvirt* packages, removing any config files I came across that could somehow be related to virtualization and recreating them by running the Yast2 "Install Hypervisor and Tools" entry, but with no luck so far. Please, how can I either fix this issue or - just as well! - completely purge anything related to the virtualization stuff and start afresh? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start virt-manager 2. Enter root password in prompt Actual Results: Observer error message Expected Results: Connect to virtual machines #> rpm -qa | grep "^vm-\|qemu\|virt-" | sort libvirt-client-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-interface-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-network-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-nodedev-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-nwfilter-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-qemu-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-secret-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-driver-storage-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-daemon-qemu-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 libvirt-glib-1_0-0-0.1.7-2.1.3.x86_64 libvirt-python-1.1.2-2.26.1.x86_64 qemu-2.0.0-28.3.x86_64 qemu-ipxe-1.0.0-28.3.noarch qemu-ksm-2.0.0-28.3.x86_64 qemu-kvm-2.0.0-28.3.x86_64 qemu-seabios-1.7.4-28.3.noarch qemu-sgabios-8-28.3.noarch qemu-tools-2.0.0-28.3.x86_64 qemu-vgabios-1.7.4-28.3.noarch qemu-x86-2.0.0-28.3.x86_64 virt-install-1.0.1-17.1.noarch virt-manager-1.0.1-17.1.noarch virt-manager-common-1.0.1-17.1.noarch virt-utils-1.1.9-9.1.2.x86_64 virt-viewer-0.5.7-3.1.4.x86_64 vm-install-0.7.8-4.1.x86_64 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
