https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=403112 Summary: Water effect and blur mess up screen Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: maurice@debijl.net QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Customer Laptop with Intel GL960 integrated chipset, Gnome desktop, Compiz effects enabled. Water effects causes all windows to become blank, the water effect is visible, screen returns to normal after the effect. Alpha blur also causes the windows specified in the setting "Alpha blur windows" to become black and graphical peformance drops. Water effect and blur did work fine with same hardware under OpenSuse 10.3 32-bit (now using 11 64-bit) Reproduce water effect problem: - Enable water effect in CompizConfig Settings Manager - Press ctrl+super Reproduce blur problem: - Enablele 'blur' in CompizConfig Settings Manager - Check 'alpha blur' - Add 'Gnome-terminal' as alpha blur window - Start Gnome-terminal Problems occur independent, not only when they are enabled both like this report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/194973 Maybe related, maybe not: running glxgears and moving the glxgears window causes artifacts (screen not updated correctly). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

BTW, did you know there are different "blur filter" available? Try the best one that works for you. I you don't mean focus blur vs. alpha blur than, no I didn't know.
In 10.3 only one type of blur was available. IMO it is best to turn off blur as it is very resource intensive and not worth the feature(?) it provides. I probably not going to use it on my machine, but want to know what causes the problem to help fix it. The new Intel gfx chipsets aren't that bad (performance-wise) anymore.
It looks like that XGL on my system on OpenSuse 11 doesn't support hardware acceleration at all. Do you know that? I thought that with OpenSuse 10.3 it was hardware accelerated. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No idea, why this has been reported against openSUSE 11.1. There is even not an Alpha available for this product.
Did I? I meant OpenSuse 11.0 (final release). I checked if hardware rendering is used with XGL, and the answer is no: xgl-switch --enable-xgl (restart x) glxinfo | grep direct direct rendering: No OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect Does anyone know hoe to enable direct rendering for XGL? With AIXGL (xgl-switch --disable-xgl, restart x) direct rendering _IS_ enabled. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
