[Bug 232005] New: ddcliend missing dependency
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232005 Summary: ddcliend missing dependency Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: schmidt@naa.net QAContact: qa@suse.de ddclient (a perl script to update DynDNS entries) needs the packet perl-IO-Socket-SSL to work. Although, ddclient is not dependent on that packet. Installing the packet makes ddclient work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

"ssl" IS disabled by a default configuration. no need to disable this. I tested now without having perl-IO-Socket-SSL package installed, and it seems to update without any problems ("seems" because my IP address didn't change and ddclient is reporting back, that there needs no update to be done). --> INVALID AFAIK "Recommends" or "Suggests" isnt possible for rpm (after doing a quick search). It might be possible on YaST base, but this needs to be -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232005 ------- Comment #7 from wberrier@novell.com 2007-02-12 08:58 MST ------- The problem with not shipping perl-IO-Socket-SSL is that if the user enables ssl support, ddclient itself doesn't report the missing module. ddclient runs and fails with no output. I had to run in verbose or debug mode to figure out why it was failing. Why is adding an extra package (perl-IO-Socket-SSL), even if only ddclient uses it, a bad thing? If rpm had a 'suggests' it would be a different story. I can't think of any other suse package (not that that means much) where a user needs to guess which additional package to install in order for the package to fully function. (Side note: shouldn't rpm's auto dep perl scanning stuff pick this dep up?) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
