[Bug 538846] New: Error message while trying to install kernel stuff like aufs_kmp and others
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=538846 Summary: Error message while trying to install kernel stuff like aufs_kmp and others Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dihewo@gmx.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=318017) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=318017) Output of script 72-block.sh with exec 2> /dev/shm/72-block.out and set -vx before loop over blockdevs in line 129 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.13) Gecko/2009080200 SUSE/3.0.13-0.1.2 Firefox/3.0.13 I was trying to rempve the aufs_kmp-xen package via zypper rm aufs-kmp-xen module. During deinstallation the following error message appeared: Removing aufs-kmp-xen-cvs20081020_2.6.27.21_0.1-1.32.9 [error] Removal of (44334)aufs-kmp-xen-cvs20081020_2.6.27.21_0.1-1.32.9.x86_64(@System) failed: Error: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27.29-0.1-xen Initrd image: /boot/initrd-2.6.27.29-0.1-xen Root device: /dev/root (mounted on / as ext3) Resume device: /dev/disk/by-id/ata-SAMSUNG_HD252KJ_S0NJJ90Q101838-part5 (/dev/sda5) Device root not found in sysfs Script /lib/mkinitrd/setup/72-block.sh failed! error: %postun(aufs-kmp-xen-cvs20081020_2.6.27.21_0.1-1.32.9.x86_64) scriptlet failed, exit status 1 Actually I had this before in Yast2, but it was easier to get the message from zypper. I have looked at the script /lib/mkinitrd/setup/72-block.sh, and it seems, that it does not handle the installation onto md-root devices properly. According to a trace I did within the script it finds the root device, but then it tries to go into the get_devmodule function with 'root' as a parameter, but there is no root entry in /sys/block/. I don't know, where the translation from /dev/root to the real device /dev/md1, which is where the link of /dev/root points to, should happen. For this is the problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go onto a machine with mdx as root. 2. zypper in aufs-kmp-xen (or rm, if its already installed or use some other kernel module, which uses /lib/lib/mkinitrd/setup/72-block.sh somewhere during installation) 3. The error message should show up as output. Actual Results: Error message (see detailed description) appears. Expected Results: Module should be installed without error message. AMD Dual Core, 2 SATA Disks (250 GB each), Software raid 1 on root and others, 4 GB Memory, Opensuse vmlinux-2.6.27.29-0.1-default. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
