[Bug 430284] New: Installation hangs at "Loading basic drivers..." on HP dv9000z
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=430284 Summary: Installation hangs at "Loading basic drivers..." on HP dv9000z Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: n1ho@comcast.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Other When attempting to install openSUSE 11.1 Beta1 (x86_64) on an HP dv9000z laptop from a DVD downloaded via ktorrent (and md5sum verified as correct), with a WD USB drive attached, openSUSE installation program v3.3.3 hangs when "loading basic drivers...". This appears to be possibly similar to, but distinct from, Bug 406632. Hardware: HP dv9000z 17" dual-SATA-drive laptop, 2GB memory, AMD X2 CPU (2GHz), NVIDIA GeForce 6150 graphics chip, Broadcom wireless card. openSUSE 11.0 is installed on second hard drive, GRUB and Windows XP on first. Attempting to install to a Western Digital 2500BB external USB drive partition, which has been usually successful under openSUSE 10.2 and 11.0 as well as Fedora 8 and Fedora 9. A manual transcription of the session is appended below. Sometimes I can tickle the installation into proceeding further by either power-cycling the drive or unplugging/replugging the USB plug, but this behaviour is decidedly non-deterministic. Once, I was able to get back to the green screen that permits selection of installation options, only to learn that my haphazard tickling kept the installation program from sizing the USB drive and its partitions. This problem is readily/repeatedly/consistently reproducible. I do not have a serial port available to instrument the system. I reported this to the opensuse-testing list, and Holger Sickenberg recommended that I file this bug as it appears to be distinct from the one he cited.
