Therefore it is impossible to log into the system with gdm. This occured for me on a VMware installation and also on an installation with a IBM Thinkpad. So, no duplicate of bnc#432980. There is no /etc/gdm/gdm.conf file there. There is a /etc/gdm/custom.conf. I have added Enable=true in [debug] there in case we use that file. It doesnt' take that long for it to hang. Leaving the machine idle for maybe ~15 minutes is enough.
