[Bug 239700] New: SaX2 with Acer AL1721 LCD on Matrox G550: "Input not supported"
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239700 Summary: SaX2 with Acer AL1721 LCD on Matrox G550: "Input not supported" Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: tilman@imap.cc QAContact: qa@suse.de Opensuse 10.2 Retail, Intel DQ965GF motherboard (on-board graphics not used), Matrox G550 PCIe graphics card, Acer AL1721 17" LCD. Running sax2 from text mode results in a black screen with a monitor generated message: "Input not supported", and the monitor's OSD button doesn't react anymore. It remains in this state even if the X server is terminated via ctrl/alt/Backspace. After switching the monitor to standby and back on with the power button the expected display (either the adjustment screen or, if the X server has been terminated, the text console) appears and everything seems ok. The same happens each time the X server is started, ie. when testing the configuration, at every system start, user logoff, runlevel change ... Each time, everything is fine after switching the monitor to standby and back on. xenon:~ # sax2 -p Chip: 0 is -> VESA Framebuffer Graphics 00:02:0 0x8086 0x2992 PCI fbdev Chip: 1 is -> Matrox G550 05:00:0 0x102b 0x2527 AGP mga -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The onboard Intel graphics is unused because it has only an analog VGA output. However the Intel BIOS does not offer an option to deactivate it completely, only to set the add-on PCIe card as the primary display, which I did. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If I use the analog input on the monitor, with a DVI to VGA adapter on the Matrox card, the problem does not manifest itself. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Now I understand the problem. For DVI output you need the HAL library (binary only), which is only available for i386 (32bit) Linux and you're running the x86_64 (64bit) Linux version. :-( This issue could only be fixed by Matrox. Honestly I doubt that this will ever happen. Either switch to 32bit or a different graphics card. Need to set to WONTFIX. I'm sorry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This is for driver release 4.4. I remember updating HALlib of 4.2 for the X.Org mga driver, which broke the driver completely and went back to HALlib of 4.1. I'll try to talk with my Matrox contact, if it's possible to use a newer HALlib with the X.Org driver and what needs to be done to adjust the driver to HALlib of 4.4. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
