People like me are preparing sle or opensuse machine for other, we start the crypted install with a "bidon" english password.
After that, we are restoring people/customer data from other system and finally we have to explain how to change the crypted key ... Sometime people doesn't want to have 2 differents key between their home and / ( or doesn't want a separate home ).
You are aware that changing the password does not change the actual encryption key, are you? You always need to perform a fresh installation for every system, you can't deploy encrypted images (you didn't state that you actually do that so just in case...). Anyways, since you're creating that situation by explaining your customers how to change the password manually I'd suggest to explain them that they can't use a non-ASCII password for / atm. Also LUKS support up to eight key slots so you can just add another password and try it before deleting the old one. So I see your problem but it's not critical since yast doesn't allow non-ASCII passwords. After thinking more about it I'm not sure whether there can be a generic fix. After all you could have a different keyboard mapping in X than on the console and the mkinitrd would always use the console setting.
If there a trick to by-pass this ( using other distribution, or the live-cd with localized env, We should advertize about this in wiki and readme notes ). In this case we can drive people to this resource.
You can use the rescue system. Feel free to document the procedure in the wiki. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
