so -- it's working the way it's _supposed_ to? if so, great!
Yeap.
re: scary/misleading ... misleading? for me -- apparently :-/
scary? heh. well, seeing FAIL, ERROR or BUG in dmesg _always_ causes me concern, and gets me searching for a/the 'problem'. yes, sometimes one learns (as here) that it's 'just a warning'.
but, at least to my read, that was not clear in this case.
in particular, i understood:
... HW bug, retry pmp=0
as an _instruction_ for _me_ to "retry pmp=0", rather than _it_ is "retrying pmp=0", and as such, i didn't recognize that the immediately subsequent results (for, e.g., ata3 ...) were the following successful results with (i suppose) pmp=0.
Yes, indeed. Shane, this is your baby, right? Can you please soften it up a little bit?
also, i hadn't yet checked to see if the workaround/patch @redhat made it through kernel upstream and back to *suse's kernel. seems it did ...
Hmmm... it doesn't usually happen like that, well, at least not for libata patches. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

softreset failed (device not ready) failed due to HW bug, retry pmp=0
The 1st message is printed by ahci_do_softreset() which need NOT modification, while the 2nd one was added by me. How about changing the 2nd one into the message below? "retrying pmp=0 to recover from softreset failure" -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
