[Bug 209763] New: [EXCHANGE BETA] Evolution Memory Leaks
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=209763 Summary: [EXCHANGE BETA] Evolution Memory Leaks Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SLED 10 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Evolution AssignedTo: kharish@novell.com ReportedBy: delder@novacoast.com QAContact: anagappan@novell.com I've seen some posts on the Novell/SUSE blogs about fixing memory leaks in evolution but the beta still seems to have a large number of memory leaks. If I leave my evolution session running overnight I will often come back to find it has absorbed all of my ram and swap: top - 07:32:52 up 16:22, 5 users, load average: 1.62, 1.21, 0.64 Tasks: 134 total, 6 running, 128 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 29.2%us, 5.6%sy, 0.0%ni, 56.9%id, 8.3%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st Mem: 1931368k total, 1911908k used, 19460k free, 111956k buffers Swap: 1023992k total, 705020k used, 318972k free, 184724k cached PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 16557 dan 15 0 2046m 922m 13m S 0.0 48.9 8:02.68 evolution 3815 root 15 0 442m 123m 14m R 23.0 6.5 35:00.47 X 15963 dan 16 0 310m 118m 6784 S 0.0 6.3 9:42.38 evolution-data- I realize that top is a very poor measurement of actual system resource useage but evolution is using over half of my RAM and all of my swap. I'd be willing to dig into this with valgrind or something else if that will help at all. When I first launch evolution the memory usage is very low: 29929 dan 15 0 419m 52m 20m S 3.7 2.8 0:02.77 evolution-2.6 29923 dan 17 0 239m 31m 9.8m S 0.0 1.6 0:02.57 evolution-data- after running for a day though it becomes enormous: 16557 dan 15 0 2046m 922m 13m S 0.0 48.9 8:02.68 evolution 15963 dan 16 0 310m 118m 6784 S 0.0 6.3 9:42.38 evolution-data- Having the resident memory increase from ~ 30 MB to > 1 GB is a pretty significant leak but I have no idea where to track it down. Is anyone else seeing large memory usage like this? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=209763 ------- Comment #3 from delder@novacoast.com 2006-10-16 08:49 MST ------- Here's another snapshot of top from leaving evolution running overnight agster trying to switch it to offline mode. It made progress in switching to offline mode but never got there and had to be shutdown with evolution --force-shutdown so I could use my system. I have debug logs from the entire run if they will be helpful at all but they're 2 gigs uncompressed. I can bzip2 them and post them somewhere if needed. The memory leak itself would seem to be in evolution, 921 M resident is quite a burly leak. top - 07:29:32 up 5 days, 13:52, 10 users, load average: 0.90, 3.10, 2.57 Tasks: 149 total, 2 running, 146 sleeping, 0 stopped, 1 zombie Cpu(s): 24.5%us, 4.0%sy, 0.0%ni, 65.9%id, 4.3%wa, 1.3%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st Mem: 1931368k total, 1915804k used, 15564k free, 203292k buffers Swap: 1023992k total, 608332k used, 415660k free, 145020k cached PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 19185 dan 15 0 1855m 921m 19m S 2.9 48.9 12:18.35 evolution 3833 root 15 0 389m 118m 14m S 4.2 6.3 230:28.62 X 14984 dan 15 0 165m 82m 16m S 0.3 4.4 3:24.78 firefox-bin 4247 dan 15 0 240m 45m 9108 S 3.6 2.4 7:21.01 gnome-terminal 22103 root 34 19 143m 38m 8956 S 0.0 2.1 1:01.03 zmd 4265 dan 15 0 94160 37m 4364 S 0.0 2.0 229:11.27 nif21 4335 dan 15 0 284m 36m 10m S 0.0 1.9 3:12.29 main-menu 8041 dan 16 0 117m 35m 10m S 0.0 1.9 0:01.96 beagled-helper 19188 dan 16 0 247m 31m 8080 S 0.0 1.7 4:12.70 evolution-data- 4302 dan 16 0 252m 31m 7684 S 0.0 1.7 2:33.29 beagled 4331 dan 18 0 314m 30m 9.8m S 0.0 1.6 2:02.89 java 3573 dan 16 0 207m 20m 12m S 0.0 1.1 0:24.08 mono 4234 dan 15 0 258m 19m 11m S 0.0 1.0 4:38.11 gaim 4223 dan 15 0 387m 19m 11m S 0.0 1.0 2:33.85 gnome-panel 4304 dan 15 0 110m 18m 7428 S 0.0 1.0 3:27.48 gnome-power-man 4225 dan 15 0 337m 16m 11m S 0.0 0.9 0:36.76 nautilus 4294 dan 15 0 122m 13m 8900 S 0.0 0.7 0:24.55 application-bro 4296 dan 15 0 189m 12m 10m S 0.0 0.7 0:23.07 nm-applet 19191 dan 15 0 144m 12m 8352 S 0.0 0.7 0:00.93 evolution-excha 4221 dan 15 0 123m 10m 7240 S 0.0 0.5 2:18.56 gnome-window-de 6522 dan 16 0 66920 10m 1252 S 0.0 0.5 0:06.13 spamd -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
