[Bug 276754] New: Large filesystems will not build.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276754 Summary: Large filesystems will not build. Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: williams@vivisimo.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I have a 2.2T Raid 5 (4 drives on a 3Ware 9550SX). When I try and do the install everything seems well, including the format. Then I have to reboot. Upon reboot, the single huge partition (2.0T) fails fsck/mount saying the superblock is corrupted. This happen repeatedly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Rebuilt it at 1.9T and it worked fine. So, there are no yast logs. But, could it be that the installer does some rounding that allows it to continue even when the partition is too large? parted also accepts the number on the margin, but then causes the superblock to be created corrupted because the partition is slightly larger the 2.0T? Just guessing here. Shouldn't these size limitations be fixed soon? My guess is that Seagate will release a multi-terabyte drive within the next year to 18 months based on their HAMR technology patents (7.5T in a 3.5 in. drive possible). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276754 ------- Comment #3 from mhorvath@novell.com 2007-05-29 04:23 MST ------- Thanks for info. But, are you sure that there are no yast logs? The installer should write it's logs to ramdisk to /var/log/YaST2. Simply switch to another tty during installation. Could you please verify that? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
