[Bug 904390] New: Superkey not working
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=904390 Bug ID: 904390 Summary: Superkey not working Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: leszek.lesner@web.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Pressing the Superkey does nothing on my Lenovo 3000 N200 Laptop anymore. It worked fine before on 13.1 now on 13.2 it just produces nothing. Even xev does not recognize the key anymore. My test on the tty were also not very promising. Holding the superkey and pressing s for example creates a simple s output just like the superkey wasn't pressed at all. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I used evtest and all 10 devices shown but nothing reacted to the super key. The strange thing is earlier today on my first boot the super key was working.
Did you test it on X, or on VT? I forgot to mention to test on VT, where X might grab the key already.
I am trying to reproduce it now but fear that it might be a random issue. And yes the super key is working on other operating systems with no problems. Also other 3.16 based distros work fine.
Which desktop system are you using on other distros? Are the very same one? Also, check whether this happens with icewm or such basic window managers. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

One interesting test would be to pass acpi_osi="!Windows 2012" boot option. Pass it in GRUB menu.
Tested it but doesn't make a change. Superkey still not recognized. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

OK, then you need to bisect the kernel and figure out which commit broke it.
At first, try to narrow down the range as much as possible. An easy way would be to test the various kernels in OBS home:tiwai:kernel:3.13, home:tiwai:kernel:3.14, and home:tiwai:kernel:3.15 repos. For 3.12, check the one in OBS home:mkubecek:evergreen-13.1 repo.
3.13 and 3.14s kernel work fine. Still need to check 3.15. Is a little bit messy as the nvidia card does not work with nouveau(GPU Lockup problem/another problem) and I need to recompile the nvidia module everytime when I test the new kernel. Anyways I am using kernel 3.14 now and it works fine. So it must be either kernel 3.15 or 3.16 that introduced this regression. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

For only checking the super key, you don't need GUI. It can be tested with runlevel 3, for example, just by checking via evtest. In that way, you can trim down the kernel config much, even without nouveau.
Now experienced also the problem on 3.14 and 3.13. So it does not seem to be an issue with the kernel. And no the keyboard is ok as it is working everytime on other distros. I am totally out of ideas why this happens. I suppose it has to be systemd as this is the only major thing that differs from the other distros. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you mean that Super key doesn't work any longer out of sudden? Did you test only on X, or check the input devices via evtest on Linux console?

Yes, very possible. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
