Thanks thanks for testing the patch so one down and one more to fix ;) I think the problem is that the _system_ image configuration provides a file named /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 and therefore the eth1 device became the eth0 device within the system. Attached is a patch which creates that ifcfg-X file from the boot image and copies it into the system image. But there are problems with this patch 1) if we let the boot image create the ifcfg- file the system image description must not provide one itself to avoid conflicts. This needs to be addressed by the creator of the system image description (the ltsp team in your case) 2) I use the current network scheme which has been changed from suse version 10.1 to 10.2 (and later). In 10.1 which also means SLE10 the interface name was only persistent if you create an ifcfg-eth-id-<MAC> address file so I think in order to make the patch work for SLE too we need to support the old scheme. My problem is how to I know which scheme is used ? I don't want to test for suse version or something like that.
