[Bug 233018] New: interface name confusion causing routes not being set
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=233018 Summary: interface name confusion causing routes not being set Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 5 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: zoz@novell.com ReportedBy: dmueller@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Hi, I'm investigating why on one of my test machines "ifup ath0" does not set the default routes sent by dhcp. this seems to be caused by "ath0" not being considered the primary device (according to ifup-dhcp), because the cached config file does not contain a "primary=yes" entry. the actual reason for this seems to be unknown to me. I have the following files: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 62 2007-01-09 23:18 /dev/shm/sysconfig/if-ath0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 64 2007-01-05 21:28 /dev/shm/sysconfig/if-eth0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 37 2007-01-05 21:28 /dev/shm/sysconfig/if-lo -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 48 2007-01-05 21:28 /dev/shm/sysconfig/if-modem0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 76 2007-01-09 21:54 /dev/shm/sysconfig/if-wifi0 if-wifi0 contains primary=yes. if-ath0 does not. when running ifup ath0, I get this in syslog: Jan 9 21:54:05 schleppi ifup: ath0 device: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01) Jan 9 21:54:05 schleppi ifup: ath0 configuration: wlan-bus-pci-0000:02:02.0 Jan 9 21:54:05 schleppi kernel: hub 2-0:1.0: over-current change on port 2 Jan 9 21:54:05 schleppi ifup-wireless: ath0 starting wpa_supplicant Jan 9 21:54:05 schleppi kernel: usb 4-3: USB disconnect, address 14 Jan 9 21:54:05 schleppi kernel: dvb-usb: generic DVB-USB module successfully deinitialized and disconnected. Jan 9 21:54:05 schleppi ifup: wifi0 device: Atheros Communications, Inc. Jan 9 21:54:06 schleppi ifup-dhcp: Starting DHCP Client Daemon on ath0... Jan 9 21:54:06 schleppi ifup-dhcp: . so for some reason, the ath0 is changed into wifi0 and then the whole thing breaks down. I don't understand where that comes from. /proc/net/dev contains lo, eth0, wifi0 and ath0. ifconfig says: ath0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:05:4E:4D:05:6E inet addr:172.22.222.35 Bcast:172.22.222.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:12144 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:7031 errors:7 dropped:7 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:1027313 (1003.2 Kb) TX bytes:942362 (920.2 Kb) eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0D:60:F9:56:15 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:4294967284 errors:4294967224 dropped:4294967284 overruns:0 frame:4294967248 TX packets:4294967284 errors:4294967272 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:4294967260 collisions:4294967284 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:4294967284 (4095.9 Mb) TX bytes:4294967284 (4095.9 Mb) Base address:0x8000 Memory:c0240000-c0260000 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:22359 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:22359 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:28971760 (27.6 Mb) TX bytes:28971760 (27.6 Mb) wifi0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-05-4E-4D-05-6E-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:71553 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:1019 TX packets:8132 errors:3 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:199 RX bytes:9739822 (9.2 Mb) TX bytes:1268768 (1.2 Mb) Interrupt:11 Memory:f9ae0000-f9af0000 if you need any more information or could help me understand where that interface name confusion comes from.. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

That should not be. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=233018 ------- Comment #2 from dmueller@novell.com 2007-01-11 09:22 MST ------- no, the interface is in mode=manual anyway. it happens when I run ifup ath0. yes, there is also a dhcpcd running on wifi0, but it never succeeds. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
