[Bug 575383] New: Applications using Openmpi display error messages on startup
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575383 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575383#c0 Summary: Applications using Openmpi display error messages on startup Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Development AssignedTo: pth@novell.com ReportedBy: vlukas@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=339752) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=339752) Code example from MPI specification User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.3; Linux) KHTML/4.3.90 (like Gecko) SUSE Openmpi applications, started with the mpirun tool, produce lots of distracting error messages on startup. These messages are related to the Dapl library (package name compat-dapl). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set up environment variables to work with Openmpi: export PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib64/mpi/gcc/openmpi/bin export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64/mpi/gcc/openmpi/lib64 2. Compile the attached code sample, which is an unaltered example of the MPI specification (see http://www.mpi-forum.org/docs/mpi-2.2/mpi22-report.pdf, page 25): mpicc mpi_opensuse_bug.c -o mpi_opensuse_bug 3. Run the resulting application: mpirun -np 2 mpi_opensuse_bug Actual Results: The application produces the following output: malloc: using debugging hooks malloc: using debugging hooks malloc: using debugging hooks malloc: using debugging hooks DAT: library load failure: /usr/lib64/libdaplcma.so.1: undefined symbol: dat_registry_add_provider -------------------------------------------------------------------------- WARNING: Failed to open "OpenIB-cma" [DAT_PROVIDER_NOT_FOUND:DAT_NAME_NOT_REGISTERED]. The Openmpi developer further remarks that Dapl is needed mainly for Solaris and is not recommended for Linux systems (In Opensuse, Openmpi depends on compat-dapl). As a workaround, Openmpi can be configured to ignore Dapl.
