[Bug 537061] New: Acer Aspire 5720 laptop does not resume from suspend for the second time
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537061 User b.m.kast@gmail.com added comment http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537061#c4 Summary: Acer Aspire 5720 laptop does not resume from suspend for the second time Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: b.m.kast@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; ru; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090730 SUSE/3.5.2-2.1 Firefox/3.5.2 The system: Laptop: Acer Aspire 5720G OS: OpenSUSE 11.1 x86 Kernel: 2.6.27.29-0.1-pae Video: NVIDIA 8400M GS The laptop resumes OK for the first time after the reboot, but hangs after turning on the power. I can notice the sound of hard disk's spin-up and some motion in DVD drive bay (surprisingly the bluetooth light turns on too), but nothing more than that. The screen stays black with no backlight, and the system gives no response to any command (For example, I've tried SysRq-B). I've made attempts to suspend the system with all tree ACPI setting values (acpi_mode, acpi_bios and acpi_both) and two different utilities (s2ram and pm-suspend), all results were the same. Also, nothing appears in dmesg after the hard reboot. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Suspend the system 2. Wake it up by pressing the power button 3. Suspend it again 4. Press the power button Actual Results: Some parts of the laptop are turned on, but not all needed to work Expected Results: The system returns to the state it was before suspending

... but hangs after turning on the power.
Sorry, I mean I have to perform two consecutive suspend-resume cycles without rebooting in between to reproduce the bug. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There was another problem (the screen backlight didn't turn on after resume, so I had to enter commands blindly on the console), but I guess it is not related to this bug (or is it?)
Did you have the backlight problem with the original openSUSE kernel or with the KotD? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

BTW, a question: if I install xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau, will the NVIDIA proprietary driver still be enabled by default (if available, off course)?
I'm sorry I can't answer that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
