Do other boot options still appear in your GRUB menu? Or in the in the button popup of the logout menu (eg clicking on red "Logout" button in right panel bottom corner)?
yes, other boot options appeared in grub menu, but they disappeared from the new suse start menu possibly one factor could be that i installed tango icon theme, for details see http://tango.freedesktop.org/Installation (it was not trivial, i addition to that instructions, one has to install imagemagick-devel) but, after switching from tango icon theme back to standard, the menu did not appear in addition to that, i dont know, if the item disappeared from the new suse start menu immediately after installing the tango icon theme, or if it was spontaneous the protocol from installing tango icon theme: Icon Naming Utilities /configure --prefix=/usr make make install Tango Icon Theme /configure --prefix=/usr make make install Tango Icon Theme Extras /configure --prefix=/usr make make install required packages for this installation * GNU Automake 1.9.x and friends * ImageMagick version 5.5.7 or greater * pkgconfig version 0.19 or greater * XML::Simple Perl Module in addition to that, also imagemagick-devel I love tango icon theme, but after this experience, i would rather not to dare to install it again :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Did you by chance change the displaymanager from kdm to gdm?
the probability, that i did it, is very low, because i do not know what these abbreviation mean at all, so it would be a kind of adrenaline adventure to change it.. i made a new installation after that, because i was quite angry (not humble) when it disappeared, so i cannot tell what was the value and further more i have no idea if installation of tango icon theme could change this parameter.. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

thanks, it really works! I have done: 1. logged in as root 2. started configure desktop / system administration / login manager / shutdown tab and under miscellaneous changed Boot manager to Grub (i use this boot manager) 3. after restart, the item appeared again! so i can install tango icon theme.. i have no idea, how to make this issue clear for an ordinary user.. perhaps to add one info item into the leave tab (which would launch the relevant documentation), or to put such an info item into each tab? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I think that when grub is used, (choosen from start when installing suse 10.2, or even lilo), this option never can be 'NONE'. It should be the one that was choosen.
