[Bug 337493] New: distribution update rewrites root= entries in grub menu. lst for unrelated kernels
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=337493 Summary: distribution update rewrites root= entries in grub menu.lst for unrelated kernels Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ak@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I have a system I updated to 10.3 (from 10.2-beta something) It booted normally using a self compiled kernel without initrd that had an own entry in menu.lst. After the update it didn't boot anymore. Investigation showed that the update had rewritten the own kernel command line root=/dev/sda... to root=/dev/disk/by-id/... which only works using initrd. The respective entry didn't have a Yast2 marker so yast should have left it alone. The update procedure should not rewrite root=... for random kernels, especially not those without initrd. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
