[Bug 907689] New: mobile networking does not work (NetworkManager not running)
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=907689 Bug ID: 907689 Summary: mobile networking does not work (NetworkManager not running) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME Assignee: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I have a ZTE MF100 USB surf stick that worked fine in openSUSE 12.3. On a new installation with openSUSE 13.2 you cannot connect to the Internet. (It was also a great idea to remove the administrator manual from the media, so you need Internet to find out how to configure Internet ;-) What happened when I plugged in the MF100 was this: The device was recognized and switched to USB modem. ("kernel: usb 3-9.2: Product: congstar Surfstick") ModemManger opened the device and found out that it requires a PIN ModemManager[1436]: <info> Modem: state changed (unknown -> locked) ModemManager[1436]: <warn> couldn't load IMSI: 'Unknown error' That's it! (There was no broadband icon in GNOME desktop, so you could do nothing about that) On my way to getting Internet I found out that starting NetWorkManager popped up a dialog to unlock the SIM with a PIN. That worked! Then I had a GNOME icon to start broadband configursation. However whatever I did, I could not receive any data. (I had an IP address and a default gateway, but no IP packets went through) pppd[4449]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyUSB2 pppd[4449]: CHAP authentication succeeded pppd[4449]: Could not determine remote IP address: defaulting to 10.64.64.64 pppd[4449]: local IP address 10.132.196.62 pppd[4449]: remote IP address 10.64.64.64 pppd[4449]: primary DNS address 10.74.210.210 pppd[4449]: secondary DNS address 10.74.210.211 NetworkManager[4362]: <info> PPP manager(IP Config Get) reply received. NetworkManager[4362]: <info> Activation (ppp0) starting connection 'ppp0' NetworkManager[4362]: <info> NetworkManager state is now CONNECTED_GLOBAL NetworkManager[4362]: <info> Activation (ttyUSB2) successful, device activated. Eventually I started YaST, disabled wicked and activated NetworkManager, then loged out and in again, also re-plugged the stick. Then I was able to configure broadband successfully so that I could actually exchange packets. No, it's a computer that has a on-board LAN card that is unconnected.
In that case, I think it is working as designed and you need to use "yast2 lan" to switch to NetworkManager in order to use it -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
