[Bug 308687] New: php5 zlib.output_compression problem
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=308687#c2822395672 Summary: php5 zlib.output_compression problem Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SLES 10 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: i.dastolfo@smart.it QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Development I have php5-zlib-5.1.2-29.35 installed along with php5 and apache2. This php5 module has the zlib.output_compression option that makes php compress the output on the fly provided that the client announced itself with the header: Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Normally, the module takes care of generate the correct response header: Content-Encoding: gzip The current zlib module packaged for SLES 10 SP1 (php5-zlib-5.1.2-29.35) seems to not work properly. In fact, activating the zlib.output_compression, the content is compressed but is missing the "Content-Encoding:" in the response header, so the client shows garbage, since it thinks it's receiving uncompressed content while it's compressed. Tested with: SLES 10 SP1 * apache2-2.2.3-16.9 * php5-5.1.2-29.35 * php5-zlib-5.1.2-29.35 in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini set zlib.output_compression = On. Then make a test page test.php in the docroot with <?php phpinfo(); ?> in it and browse it with Firefox. While googling for a solution I found this: http://groups.google.com/group/mailing.freebsd.ports-bugs/browse_frm/thread/4e644dbd025d0fda/2822395672bcf46d?lnk=st&q=php5+Content-Encoding+zlib.output_compression&rnum=6#2822395672bcf46d I don't know if it's the same bug, but I hope you will fix it, since I can't enable compression that saves a lot of bandwidth.
