[Bug 508561] New: KDE applet cannot authenticate with WPA or WPA2 encrypted networks
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=508561 Summary: KDE applet cannot authenticate with WPA or WPA2 encrypted networks Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Milestone 2 Platform: HP OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042700 SUSE/3.0.10-1.1.1 Firefox/3.0.10 On 11.2 Milestone 2, a KDE desktop running NetworkManager cannot connect with a WPA or WPA2 network. The system repeatedly asks for the PSK. If I use the Gnome desktop, NetworkManager works just fine. Similarly, switching to ifup works with both desktops. I have changed the call to wpa_supplicant to include the -ddd and -K switches in both 11.1 and 11.2. From the logs and their diff, I know that the PSK is being received correctly by the supplicant. In the RX EAPOL value, one byte differs, and this difference also appears in the RX EAPOL-key. After that, I get lost, but would be able to post parts of the logs if that would be helpful. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use NetworkManager to control network with KDE 2. 3. Actual Results: The system could not connect to the wireless network. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The two sections of /var/log/NetworkManager have been attached.
Thanks a lot Larry.
Gnome, which succeeds, shows a config phase, but KDE does not.
Yep, right. (In reply to comment #7)
Something I had not noticed before. This is what iwconfig shows for wlan0:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"g\xC6isQ\xFFJ\xEC)\xCD\xBA\xAB\xF2\xFB\xE3F|\xC2T\xF8\x1B\xE8\xE7\x8DvZ.c3\x9F\xC9\x9A"
Looks like random memory to me. Maybe because NM did not receive (or did not use) the SSID (and other config options) supplied by KNM. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
