There are seweral issues with the sound card which is a 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller Configured as sound card number 0 Driver snd-hda-intel model is vaio. I don't see any problem in the codec setup. Did you unmute the hardware volume control (if any?)
Also, I suppose the headphone output works, right?
Also, once logout, go to linux console (ctrl+alt+F1), login as root. Then run "aplay -vv foo.wav" where foo.wav is any WAV file to play. Any difference about the headphone / speaker output?

Soory you hawe right it is working fine.
