[Bug 638435] New: Can't boot encrypted system after installing nvidia drivers
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=638435 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=638435#c0 Summary: Can't boot encrypted system after installing nvidia drivers Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jdmulloy@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.127 Safari/533.4 I have a fully encrypted system and after installing the binary Nvidia drivers with the instructions at http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers I can't boot. After I enter my password I get the following errors. crypt: Error allocating crypto tfm device-mapper: reload ioctl failed: Invalid argument Failed to setup dm-crypt key mapping for device /dev/md1 Check that kernel supports aes-cbc-essiv:sha256 cipher (check syslog for more info). I think the initrd was regenerated when I installed the driver. Unfortunately by default OpenSUSE does not keep a backup initrd or kernel so if an update leaves the system unbootable you're screwed. Why does OpenSuse not keep a backup like everyone else does? My system is setup in the following way. I have /boot on a RAID 1 array. I have another RAID 1 array that contains an encrypted container that contains an LVM Physical Volume which contains Logical Volumes for /, swap and /home.
