https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218297
Summary: Disk mounting idea .. verry important
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: Beta 1 plus
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Installation
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com
ReportedBy: sfurdal@ehelp.pl
QAContact: jsrain@novell.com
Well we have /mnt and /media folders to mount devices - IMHO its too
confiusing... all devices should be mounted in /media and disks
partitions/pendrives etc. should be mouted automaticly as /media/hda1
/media/hda2 ... /media/sda1 etc. or as volume names /media/my_stuff ... but I
think first idea with device names its much better ... what do You think about
that?
Second thing: openSUSE installation should not format any disks as a default,
there should be 3 choices:
1) Automatic (use entire disk(s)) <the same way as its doing current SUSE
Linux>
2) Choose partition for openSUSE - only this partition will be used

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218297 ------- Comment #2 from suse-beta@cboltz.de 2006-11-07 15:57 MST ------- regarding /mnt vs. /media: They have clear usecases: - /media/* is used for CDs, DVDs, USB sticks/harddisks etc. - often mounted by the user or a hotplug/automount daemon (whatever name it has) Oh, and it uses /media/<label> as mountpoint already if a label is available ;-) - /mnt is meant as temporary mount point for administrative tasks. In other words: Never used by a normal user. I don't see the point in removing /mnt or /media. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This is the wrong place to discuss this. We're moving away from /opt usage but it's needed for 3rd party applications, check the LSB standard for details as well. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
