[Bug 271034] New: usability: online update cryptic errors
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=271034 Summary: usability: online update cryptic errors Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Several issues -- common problem: cryptic errors messages and handling. One example: during installation (not downloading) an error occured, what error? "RPM error ---- ? ". I have no idea what that means, since it is a bit scary info, I tried to abort the process, so having options "abort/skip/retry" I clicked on "abort". What abort really means? "Continue". Ok, installation continued, and I get another error -- "error code -127". Then I successfully aborted the whole process. Suggestions: 1) please, show errors for humans "not enough space on disk", "no connection to server", do not show "error -127", "RPM error ?". It means simply nothing. 2) do not redefine words -- abort should abort the process, skip should skip single step, retry should retry the single step -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I reported this problem already, but there is no solution yet. Reproducing the bug: I don't know, my only guess would be: a) fill your system disk up to ~300-500MB free space and run online update b) or from code -- check how errors messages are acquired and displayed Of course redefining words problem does not have to reproduced -- it is in the dialog. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It could be sufficient for the debugging... Without the log I cannot locate where exactly the problem happens. Thank you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Errno 12 = ENOMEM (Out of memory) Libzypp should be more verbose in such case and tell user what has happened... And the abort problem is probably also in libzypp, yast correctly returned `abort: PackageCallbacks.ycp:446 DonePackage `abort which in pkg-bindings means zypp::target::rpm::InstallResolvableReport::ABORT. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
