https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262420 Summary: Kernel doesn't detect more than 4 serial interfaces Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: friedemann.schmieg@t-online.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Using an additional serial PCI Multi I/O interface card the interfaces where detected by the SuSE 9.3 kernel as ttyS0 (on board) ttyS1 (on board) ttyS44..S47 (interface card) After an update to openSuSE 10.2 we have the following situation: ttyS0 (on board) ttyS1 (on board) ttyS2 (interface card) ttyS3 (interface card) the two other serial interfaces on the I/O card are not recognized anymore. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262420 jeffm@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |NEEDINFO Info Provider| |friedemann.schmieg@t-online.de ------- Comment #6 from jeffm@novell.com 2007-05-01 12:45 MST ------- Ok, here's what's happening. Since the 9.3 release, the kernel has integrated support for multiport cards into the generic serial driver. That driver has a compile-time defined limit of 8 ports, and a runtime limit of 4 ports, so this message appears in the log. Two of them are used by the serial ports on your motherboard, so when it tries to register the 5th port, we see: <4>Couldn't register serial port 0000:00:0b.0: -28 (-ENOSPC) Can you boot with the kernel parameter "8250.nr_uarts=6" and see if that fixes the problem for you? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
