[Bug 280859] New: KWin doesn't start anymore after installation of kdebase3-3.5.7-17.1.i586
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=280859 Summary: KWin doesn't start anymore after installation of kdebase3-3.5.7-17.1.i586 Product: SUSE LINUX 10.0 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: s_dibbern@web.de QAContact: kde-maintainers@suse.de Last night I installed the above mentioned RPM from http://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/SUSE_Linux_10.0/i58... , together with a bunch of other RPMs related to KDE. I know well that this packet source cannot be regarded as stable, nonetheless, this morning kwin fails to start with the following messages in ~/.xsession-errors: Could not open library kwin.la: /opt/kde3/lib/libkdeinit_kwin.so: undefined symbol: _ZNK11NETRootInfo24desktopLayoutOrientationEv kwin: symbol lookup error: /opt/kde3/lib/libkdeinit_kwin.so: undefined symbol: _ZNK11NETRootInfo24desktopLayoutOrientationEv I think this should be dealt with as soon as possible, because I know for a fact that many users do these "updates" and will probably run into this problem. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=280859 s_dibbern@web.de changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|RESOLVED |REOPENED Resolution|INVALID | ------- Comment #2 from s_dibbern@web.de 2007-06-06 18:56 MST ------- No, definitely not. I now updated to kdebase3-3.5.7-21.2 and kdelibs3-3.5.7-31.1, the packages right now available in the 10.0 repo, just to be sure, but the error remains exactly the same. Trying to rpmbuild --recompile the kdebase source package gives me a mysterious threefold error: Unknown option ? in verify_permissions(:-:) right in the beginning, even before it enters the prep stage (coincidence?) https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=280859 ------- Comment #4 from s_dibbern@web.de 2007-06-07 04:06 MST ------- Dear Stephan, I'm really trying to not annoy you people more than necessary, and I'm not complaining. I simply do inform you about an issue in the packets you build. kdebase3-3.5.7-21.2 was what was present in the repo when I wrote my last comment, in the meantime this indeed has changed to -23.1. I installed the new package (-23.1), but the issue persists, ~/.xsession-errors still shows this symbol lookup error for /opt/kde3/lib/libkdeinit_kwin.so. To be sure, in konsole: me@mybox:~> rpm -q kdebase3 kdebase3-3.5.7-23.1 me@mybox:~> rpm -q kdelibs3 kdelibs3-3.5.7-31.1 me@mybox:~> kwin kwin: symbol lookup error: /opt/kde3/lib/libkdeinit_kwin.so: undefined symbol: _ZNK11NETRootInfo24desktopLayoutOrientationEv me@mybox:~> ls -l /opt/kde3/lib/libkdeinit_kwin.so -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 753967 2007-06-07 01:30 /opt/kde3/lib/libkdeinit_kwin.so me@mybox:~> date -uRr /opt/kd3/lib/libkdeinit_kwin.so Wed, 06 Jun 2007 23:30:54 +0000 Have a nice day! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=280859 ------- Comment #5 from llunak@novell.com 2007-06-08 03:37 MST ------- kdelibs3-3.5.7-31.1.i586.rpm : $ nm -D libkdecore.so.4.2.0 | grep _ZNK11NETRootInfo24desktopLayoutOrientationEv 000b5ed0 T _ZNK11NETRootInfo24desktopLayoutOrientationEv The symbol apparently is there. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=280859 ------- Comment #6 from s_dibbern@web.de 2007-06-08 04:48 MST ------- Yes, it is indeed. But it wasn't in the orphaned libkdecore.so/la.debug files, which were present in the directory. For some reason, they did not got removed by removing the debug package, and were consequently not upgraded. So, completely my fault. Thanks for your patience, and sorry about the fuzz.
