The fixed sane-backends is available in the "graphics" project also for openSUSE_11.4 and openSUSE_12.1 so that users could download it from there for now. Perhaps someone of the openSUSE community may have time so that he could re-assign the bug to himself and work on it to provide a maintenance update for 11.4 and 12.1.
