Rerunning sax2 fixed it. So which "XkbModel" was in xorg.conf right after the update and before you reran sax2? In that case it doesn't matter if AutoAddDevices option is set. evdev input sections will be used. I believe the evdev driver options have fundamentally changed since 11.1, which could be the reason, why your keyboard didn't work at all right after the update.
