If, for example, I add the KDE repository then I anticipate the behaviour: 1. I could (optionally)install, or more likely update, selected packages from it 2. packages that exist within that repository and are dependencies of other packages would be found and installed, when required. The other broader behaviour that I anticipated was that upgrading a package via any of: a. online update b. marking the package for update in software management c. 1-click install would all invoke the same dependency sequence. If that is not catered for in the overall design, then I stand corrected. This bug no longer has much priority for me. I have moved the mainboard to a larger case where I installed a plug-in HD3450 Radeon card that I know is fglrx compatible. It's not clear whether I could readily do any further testing of the bug. I don't particularly want to use fglrx because of the repetitive requirement for module recompilation, but it is a prerequisite for some applications eg googleearth. Agreed, I should have disabled the repository while it was not required.
