Yast is giving me the option to use MDRaid for my ICH10R setup. Regardless of clicking Yes or No, Yast hangs afterwards. I also tried starting dmraid (with "dmraid -a y"), but this resulted in a Segfault. I also tried unloading the raid modules and reloading the dm_raid modules but with the same result. I quickly changed to the kernel messages because the system is unresponsive after only a few seconds. I could not get a log but there seems to be an infinite loop with this kernel message recurring: kernel: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 61s! [sh:4083] After rebooting I selected No for mdraid in yast. the "mdadm -Esvvv" output was the same (as far as I could see) but dmraid would not produce any output regardless of the options. This might be part of the problem. We are picking up Intel metadata on a partition which should never happen. I'll attach a patch to address this. I'm sorry I can't test further with this setup, because gparted messed up my Raid5 pretty bad. I've rebuilt it with a Raid10 (0+1) and it is working out of the box (installed factory yesterday) with mdadm, so I suppose the problem is directly Raid5 related. I think it is quite likely that this could have addressed the problem that you were experiencing. As you have a work-around that you seem to be happy with, and as the bug is quite possibly fixed.
