[Bug 620719] New: Dual monitor configuration is lost when power cycles
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=620719 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=620719#c0 Summary: Dual monitor configuration is lost when power cycles Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: bjbutter@trip.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100317 SUSE/3.5.9-0.1.1 Firefox/3.5.9 Software: openSuSE, 11.3 RC1, 32-bit version Hardware: Quad core Intel core 2 duo Desktop: KDE Tested Video Hardware: (1) GeForce 8600 GTS video card - has two DVI output ports on the card Monitors configuration: (2) LG Flattron W2343T monitors This is reported in the hardware information as two instances of W2343, which is correct The two monitors are correctly reported as 1920x1080 The 8600 uses a DVI interface, but the monitors are connected using a VGA cable with a VGA to DVI adapter, provided by the video card manufacturer, at the output ports of the video card I can configure the two monitors to form a single desktop using the "Personal Settings" application. Everything seems to work fine. However when power is cycled, the change to form a single desktop is lost. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: I configured the two monitors to make a single desktop On the main menu, selected "Personal Settings" Under the Computer Administration section, selected "Display" If the "Multiple Monitors" section is selected, there is a statement that "This module is only for configuring systems with a single desktop spread across muliple monitors. You do not appear to have this configuration" If "Size and Orientation is selected" When the "Identify Outputs" is selected, both monitors display in a single box: DVI-I-1 DVI-I-2 Both DVI-I-1 and DVI-I-2 are indicated as "connected" DVI-I-1 has a position of "Absolute", and it cannot be changed DVI-I-2 initially has a position of "Clone of", relative to DVI-I-1 If DVI-I-2 is switched to "Left of", and accepted, it properly displays a single desktop across the two monitors. If "Identify Outputs" is selected, both monitors display their proper individual status, with DVI-I-2 being left of monitor DVI-I-1 When power is cycled: The system boots up with the two monitors being a clone of each other When KDE becomes active, the two monitors are clones of each other If the "Personal Settings" are selected, the status is identical to when the unit was first installed. No memory of the previous setting is retained. Actual Results: If it is supposed to detect a dual monitor configuration in "Personal Settings" / "Multiple Monitors", it does NOT detect this. If it is supposed to configure a dual monitor under the "Size and Orientation", the configuration seems to work fine. Expected Results: I expected a power cycle to retain the previous settings -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
