EFI specs says that this partition's filesystem has to be FAT or VFAT, a filesystem which does not support user permission at all. Of course by not mounting anything to /boot/efi, then manually copying the grub2-efi directory to EFI boot partition works (as long as you update EFI bootloader entry using efibootmgr), but as openSUSE assumes that /boot/efi points to EFI partition, there is an issue with the way grub2-efi is installed on the system. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Installs grub2-efi on a already uefi booted system with /boot/efi populated 2. 3. Expected Results: No error message. Btw. I did the same changes that Fedora did for the EFI support and I don't see them doing anything different than us besides that in the filelist that don't have these two lines: %dir /boot/efi %dir /boot/efi/EFI So, seems they should have the same issue. I couldn't reproduce the problem you mentioned. My steps is like this 1. Install openSUSE12.1 2. Re-install openSUSE12.1 (it has /boot/efi populated from last installation) 3. Install grub2-efi after installation finished $ zypper in grub2-efi $ grub2-efi-install $ grub2-efi-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2-efi/grub.cfg 4. Reboot. Grub2 boot menu presented and works for me. Could you please give 12.1 a try or suggest me how to reproduce the problem in case my step and understanding to the problem is wrong ?
