[Bug 227279] New: Total failure of installation with openSuse 10.2 - Final Release
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227279 Summary: Total failure of installation with openSuse 10.2 - Final Release Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: hrieger@izeit.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com During initial booting of the kernel using the ram-disk the boot process stops totally. This happens with all kernel versions offered. Using the text mode I ca n see that the booting proceeds shortly after/during the PCI system analysis where a chipset bug is reported by the kernel. The chipset used on the motherboard (MSI-6120) is a pretty old one (Intel 440 BX) which had up to now never problems with kernel versions =< 2.6.16 (e.g. as used in Suse 10.1). The problem seems very much the same as reported in Bug 224375. It seems that the pci initialisation is going wrong. Hopefully you can help because Bug 224375 was closed as being resolved!! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Install 10.0 and upgrade to 10.1 without any problems. Now I can't boot into 10.2 and it freezes at the same point -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This was possible without any problems at all!! The system runs in SMP mode as expected. Now I have seen in the openSuse bug reports Bug 231205 which describes exactly the same problems. I forgot to repoort that my system is a dual processor system which then runs the SMP kernel. Could anybody from the openSuse kernel developer try to find out what might be the reason for the problems as for Fedora Core 6 and openSuse 10.2 the kernel basis is obviously the same. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Running Suse 10.2 on Lenovo 3000 n100 dual core and system hangs while booting. When I pass "nosmp" to kernel, it works fine (using just one core). Tried to use Vanilla kernel and there were no problems (system used both cores). Would be great if this get fixed... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
