[Bug 279022] New: when showing problems with free space on partition the "restore" widget serves as "close"
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279022 Summary: when showing problems with free space on partition the "restore" widget serves as "close" Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Take a look at the screenshot. In most upper, right corner there is typical "restore/maximize" button (now as restore). When I click it -- the whole dialog is closed -- so it works like "x" (close) widget. Very awkward but true. Oh, btw. when yast is downloading repos data this button works correctly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

That WM button works as expected for me: It maximizes that window or (when already maximized) restores the normal window size. I also wouldn't know how to influence that from the application side. The application gets a resize request from the window manager when that button is activated. It does not get any special request that requires special handling (or that CAN get special handling). So if this is a problem on your machine, it might be a problem with your window manager or with your window manager settings. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279022 ------- Comment #3 from bluedzins@wp.pl 2007-05-30 07:02 MST ------- Stefan, but you reproduced with the dialog information about too little space (exactly like on the screenshot)? I can reproduce it over and over again but _only_ in this situation. For everything else it works normal -- it restores or maximizes window. I use KDE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279022 ------- Comment #4 from sh@novell.com 2007-05-30 07:16 MST ------- Yes, I used that very same dialog. It's easy to trigger that one: There is a debugging mode in the package selector for just that. Click into the disk usage list in the package selector (so the keyboard focus is there), then activate the debugging mode with Ctrl Alt Shift Q Then you can use the '+' and '-' keys to change the disk space values in that list. At some point, you will get the warning dialog. I also use KDE. I cannot reproduce this problem. And even if I could, like mentioned above this would be beyond the scope of an application: Applications cannot influence those window buttons. They belong to the window manager. The window manager sends events as appropriate to the application. In the case of that "Maximize/Restore" button, it will send XResizeWindow events to the application. The application cannot tell the difference if they are sent via this button or by the user dragging on the window border. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279022 ------- Comment #5 from bluedzins@wp.pl 2007-05-30 07:54 MST ------- Stefan, thanks for the tips (however I cannot use this, I have my keyboard remapped. My point was, that maybe Yast Soft.Man. incorrectly handles this resize event. Hmm, or maybe it crashes silently. Anyway, if it works for me, and this is rather minor, maybe there is some small difference in KDE or yast version/patch. I'll check it again with newer versions. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279022 ------- Comment #6 from bluedzins@wp.pl 2007-05-30 08:11 MST ------- Bingo! Segmentation fault at /usr/share/YaST2/clients/inst_packages.ycp:36 /sbin/yast2: line 274: 12676 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" "$Y2_GEOMETRY" $Y2QT_ARGS Btw. I see this dialog with no free space right after I run yast (and yast get data from repos). So maybe this is a difference -- you see it after you run yast and see all the widgets. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279022 ------- Comment #7 from sh@novell.com 2007-05-30 08:20 MST ------- Did you install some single packages (build service? factory?) over your 10.2? A segfault in that situation points to that general direction. Very often, libraries are less binary compatible than they should be, resulting in a segfault at very strange points. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I answer this: I use several repos mentioned here http://en.opensuse.org/Package_Repositories and here http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories (like packman for example). So it is not pure 10.2 -- I upgraded KDE for example to 3.5.7, I downgraded cups, and so on. My wild guess would be the problem is the main window tries to reorder the widgets that do not exist (yet) rather than binary incompatibility. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

A newer KDE should not be a problem, even if it included a changed version of the Qt-Libs; they should be binary compatible. Changed versions of YaST2 binaries or of libzypp tend to be a bigger problem. But it's only a wild guess.
My wild guess would be the problem is the main window tries to reorder the widgets that do not exist (yet) rather than binary incompatibility.
If that were the case, we'd get a lot more bug reports about random crashes. But I haven't seen any similar one. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Not really: a) someone has to have not enough free space b) someone has to run yast c) someone has to click on "restore" for _after_ downloading data from repo (descriptions) but _before_ yast fully initializes So it is one spot to make it crash. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
