[Bug 447259] New: Support LZIP compression
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=447259 Summary: Support LZIP compression Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Factory Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Development AssignedTo: pth@novell.com ReportedBy: jengelh@medozas.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer LZIP [ http://freshmeat.net/p/lzip ] is a new LZMA implementation that apparently resolves shortcoming of tukaani.org's lzma-utils. http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lzip-bug/2008-11/msg00005.html As such, please give it consideration to support lzip. Attached to this bugreport is a patch for rpm to add lzip detection. I am still thinking whether LZMA payload should also be replaced by LZIP payload. Working srpm balls can be found at ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-jengelh/SRPMS-11.0/lzip-1.1-jen0.src.rpm ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-jengelh/SRPMS-11.0/rpm-4.4.2-199.1.jen1.src.rpm The designated extensions for lzip files is ".lz". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

*.lz sounds pretty generic to me though
it follows .gz and .bz/.bz2.
note that p7zip and lzma-utils are currently working on a new file format standard.
While they are still working, lzip is here today. And if you believe http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=2188774&forum_id=708858 , it has already been over two years.
I think that we can wait until support is "upstream".
Given the rpm maintenance mess, just what is upstream? rpm.org? rpm5.org? johnson's rpm? there's so many of them it's not even clear which is which. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
