https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=841362 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=841362#c0 Summary: Installation, Laptop Monitor two monitor capable laptop - Dell Inspiron 1720 & 1721 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: plank@ieee.org QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 This is possible installation problem for dual monitor capable laptops, this case - VGA output for second monitor - both 1920x1200 capable) for OpenSuse version greater than 11.4. Version 11.4 does not have this potential problem, don't think 11.2 (x64) had this potential problem either. Installation OpenSuse versions 12.1 (x32), 12.2 (x64) and 12.3 (x64). On installation the the first menu on the installation comes up on the "default - laptop monitor" (First menu is - option to: Boot from Hard Disk, Installation, Rescue System, Check installation, Firmware Test etc). When the installation option is chosen, the Laptop monitor goes blank, actually a green haze. The 2nd or external monitor is then used displaying the menus and options, even if the 2nd monitor is not connected to the VGA connector. To continue, one has to have a second monitor connected, if not - one can not continue with the installation. New users laptop user's who don't have or do not connect an external monitor on a new installation, will assume that Opensuse 12.1 and above will not install on their laptop, currently, since after the first menu, video output is only directed to only the external monitor and "default" or laptop monitor goes blank; actually it is green haze. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1 Wipe Drive, Power on, put DvD in drive, press F12 key to get boot options, select DvD boot. 2. Select installation option on the first menu. 3. laptop screen goes to a green haze (blank), video output is now only on External Video connector/port. Without the second/external monitor connected one can not continue with installation unless one has a 2nd monitor and is aware of this situation. Actual Results: Power on, press F12 key for option on boot device, select DvD boot, select installation option for OpenSuse, output is directly only to the external video connector, the laptop monitor goes blank. If duplicate on other laptops then Linux (OpenSuse) might lose some converts due to this potential problem. Expected Results: Unless otherwise selected - the laptop monitor or the "default" monitor is always used to display the installation menu options, whether or not a second video output is present or connected. If an video external output is "recognized" during installation it should be the clone of the "default" laptops monitor/screen. Screen shot not available - this happens immediately after the installation menu choice of Installation is made - Ksnapshot is not available at that point. This was tested on the Dell Inspiron 1720, but was also observed for 12.2 (x64) installation on a Dell Inspiron 1721 (AMD) which has a different graphics board. Blank drive was used, only OpenSuse was to be installed on this drive. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
