https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=332825 Summary: Product Creator App dies Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Live Medium AssignedTo: cthiel@novell.com ReportedBy: rccj@ricreig.com QAContact: coolo@novell.com Found By: Other Created an attachment (id=177551) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=177551) Log showing failure While attempting to create a plain vanilla product iso using Yast Product Creator, while 'checking dependencies' (forever), the screen suddenly cleared with no error message, the memory and cpu were released and it was as if I had gone to great trouble to abort the program, which I had not, I was in the kitchen getting a soda. Attached is the Yast log file which suggests it received a signal from something, but it wasn't from me. I was running the newest kernel and the newest update of Kiwi 10/10/07 about 8pm download time. The machine has 3G of ram and 1Tb of disk space with over 800g free so it neither ran out of memory or disk space. No ISO was produce and no evidence of tmp files. For about 45 min, cpu usage was about 50% (on a AMD dual core 5000+) If there was an error message or popup, it was not on the screen when I returned from the kitchen. I had selected a basic install with KDE and only 2 apps, 'mc' and 'vlc' and had selected appropriate repos. These apps run flawlessly on my installation and should not have had any dependency issues. Just before I had left, no swap space had been used according to the cpu monitor app running in the taskbar. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you please run the module with the environment variable "ZYPP_FULLLOG=1" again ? So I can see more in the logfiles. P.S.: I hope, you can reproduce it.....
I would be happy to however I am not sure *where* to set that value. I assume it is in sysconfig somewhere, but ???? I sent you E-Mail but I got no response. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Richard, what was exactly the behavior from that time you attached last y2log? Am I right that you opened Product Creator, wanted to create ISO image, went into the package selector and there you've seen some endless loop?
Since the last run where I got the DePFH loop, I was waiting for some kind of update to change something on the installation software that might warrant another test, therefore, nothing changed. As to your 2nd question, I had asked it to make an ISO based completely on defaults. To that tend I had selected only one item as shown in the screenshot I had attached, which if I remember right was just the Base System. Thereupon it started 'checking dependencies' and immediately found a list that I could neither ignore or accept any option without triggering even more items that often included the original which I had already answered. It got to where I couldn't remember what I had chosen earlier on some of them. Once I say 'don't install' on a package, it shouldn't provide that later as an option to solve another issue because then the first problem reappears again. ergo, instant loop. I decided not to play that game until the resolver or distros or whatever triggered that loop on the FIRST checkbox was addressed. Even on my 5000+ dual-core machine, it often takes many minutes to 'checking dep...' for each check box so I was going to try it with just BASIC and KDE and see if I could get an ISO, but never got that far. On my initial test after the time when it just quit after several hours, I let the resolver run for about 5 hours (no messages or issues for ME to resolve appeared) before I said that it shouldn't take that long for 1 checkbox to resolve and aborted. To date, I have only gotten to the selection phase, never to the make an ISO phase. If something has changed that has passed my attention, or if there is a specific test you need me to run, just ask, but I don't frustrate myself spontanneously :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Stefan, the reporter is talking about the solver. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Richard, sorry for the late response. Is this still an issue ? I had a look into the logfiles again, but cannot find any hint. Are you able to reproduce it and if yes, could you please generate a testcase ?
Anyway we have changed the solver for 11.0 completely. As you are the only one who has this special problem would it be an option for you to switch to 11.0 ?
I gave up on 10.3 and am now testing 11.0 B1. I haven't gotten to the point where I can test the product builder, but when I do, I will open another bug report if there is still an issue. At the moment, I cannot do a plain vanilla install off of the dvd but upgrading 10.3 from the factory works fine (go figure) so I assume there is a problem with the new install routines because of this. Once everything is updated (some 1100 programs), everything works just fine. I have not filed a bug report on this because it seems to be similar to other roports so I will wait for B-2 to see if it is resolved. In the meantime, I will start looking at things like the product creator and the live-cd creator.
