For wifi connected status I would suggest just other colors, and _not shaded_. It is too much, really. Take a look at kwifimanager -- its icon is much more readable (i.e. it presents desired readability). Cable connected -- the icon is a bit too cryptic, the icon size is limited so when you try to put rotated image of the plug, what do you get? Only few pixels to draw image. The same goes for disconnected icons.
