[Bug 227741] New: X11 crashes with supplied Wine
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227741 Summary: X11 crashes with supplied Wine Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rcoo@free.fr QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com My XOrg server crashes all the time when I try to launch Wine. I verified this using 3 different versions of Wine: - CrossOver Office 5 - Wine 0.9.24 (supplied with OpenSuSE 10.2) - Wine 0.9.27 (just downloaded) I can't even launch winecgf nor winemine. Everything went fine under OpenSuSE 10.1. I think this could be an XOrg-related bug. More info: 1. My chipset is VIA KM 400 2. $> rpm -q xorg-x11-server xorg-x11-driver-video xorg-x11-server-7.2-30 xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-33 More info later. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I just noted that on pressing the Ctrl-F1 key (Ctrl-F2 and so on also), I don't switch to text mode; instead, I obtain the screen's upper half somewhat black with dots, & the bottom half still having the X11 display. Pressing on Ctrl-F7 gives me the normal screen back. Sounds like a memory leak. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

They work, however, I experienced the same behaviours as before e.g. - wine not working (all versions), crashes silently XOrg without notice on Xorg.log - 3D screen savers not working, same thing as wine - text mode consoles sometimes corrupted I join the Xorg.log showing how the VIA driver was recognized. Later I tried to revert to the VESA Xorg driver. Miracle ! Wine works. Finally: 1) The actual VIA driver has some flaws, more or less related to 3D 2) Incidentally, SAX silently choosed "via" as driver within xorg.conf -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Since we don't have any VIA hardware + knowledge about programming the driver this issue needs to get fixed upstream. JFYI, meanwhile unichrome drivers are available as well from the buildservice. http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Drivers:/Video:/unichrome/ope...

The unichrome driver does not support 3D. I was wrong. It does. Until openSUSE 10.3 you need to add
Load "dri" to Section Module of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Since openSUSE 11.0 this module is loaded by default anyway. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
