[Bug 222708] New: OpenOffice_org 32-bit does not detect Java on x86_64
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222708 Summary: OpenOffice_org 32-bit does not detect Java on x86_64 Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 plus Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: aj@novell.com ReportedBy: pmladek@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: pmladek@novell.com, ro@novell.com, rguenther@novell.com Huh, the 32-bit OOo does not detect the java correctly on x86_64. It works only when the 32-bit Sun 1.4.2 JRE is installed. We need two fixes: 1. We must create gcc41-gij-32bit with: /usr/bin/gij32-4.1 /usr/bin/grmiregistry32-4.1 2. I have to fix OOo, so it detects this gij and ignores all the 64-bit JREs. It is unbeliavelly slow when they are not detected. I am sorry for this late blocker. Nobody tested the 32-bit OOo on x86_64 because we expected that only the 64-bit versions will be distributed. I found it late, ... I am just fighting with the OOo side. Who could create the 32-bit package? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

We don't produce a native 32bit gij, you might be able to use the i386 one instead (if you use a 32bit OOo). But why doesn't the 64bit gij work? And no, we cannot just "create this" - at least not before you confirm that using the i386 gcc41-gij works. And then it would need autobuild magic. Or another gcc .spec to just produce this gij. Do you have a "testcase"? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222708 ------- Comment #3 from pmladek@novell.com 2006-11-20 15:47 MST ------- The problem is that we decided to distribute the 32-bit OOo on the biarch DVD to save the disk space. OOo is very ugly. It starts java/gij to read some information about the JRE. Then it loads the JRE library (libgcj/libjvm), starts its own virtual machine, ... The 32-bit OOo needs to start the 32-bit gij to find the right /usr/lib/libgcj. Note that 32-bit OOo cannot dlopen the 64-bit library, ... Well, it would be possible to add a hack and translate the lib -> lib64. I only think that adding the 32bit package is much easier and more secure. I have just submitted a new package that searches for gij32 and gij32-4.1. So, it would be enough to create the package gcc41-gij-32bit that would include the two renamed files from the 32-bit package: /usr/bin/gij32-4.1 /usr/bin/grmiregistry32-4.1 I took inspiration from SL 10.1, package libgcj-32bit. It includes exactly these two files, ... It really works. I have tested it. I will have a package for testing tomorrow. I am sorry, I have to leave now to catch the last bus. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222708 pmladek@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|RESOLVED |REOPENED Resolution|FIXED | ------- Comment #7 from pmladek@novell.com 2006-11-23 12:24 MST ------- gcc41-gij-32bit is not installed by default. OOo requires jre-32 that is provided by java-1_4_2-gcj-compat-32bit, see also the bug #223440. In fact, the package java-1_4_2-gcj-compat-32bit is almost unusable on 10.2 because many dependencies are missing. The symlinks point nowhere in the default installation... All problems can be solved if we add the following requires to the java-1_4_2-gcj-compat-32bit package: Requires: gcc41-gij-32bit # the needed 32-bit stuff for OOo Requires: gcc-gij # satisfy bin/java and bin/rmiregistry syml Requires: classpath # satisfy lib/rt.jar symlink The package will be a bit schizophrenic. It will make sure that the needed 32-bit binaries and libraries are installed. It will run java/rmiregistry by the 64-bit stuff, though. It is not perfect but should be sufficient. Note that the 32-bit dependency is really needed by OOo. It is the most important thing for this bug. Rudi, could you please add these three dependencies or at least the first one? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
