In a lab of machines one had a ZMD that corrupted its file and zmd was reset using the steps outlined on http://en.opensuse.org/Troubleshooting_zmd . Attempting to do an update after acroread 8 update came out now consistently fails. removing the existing acroread RPM and attempting to install acroread continues to fail: # rug install acroread Resolving Dependencies... I shutdown ZMD, moved /var/lib/zmd aside ensured that all sources in YaST|Installation Sources had been removed, started ZMD, added the sources on the command line using rug sa -t..., stopping ZMD, copied the backed up package-history.db to the new /var/lib/zmd, started ZMD. Doing rug search 32bit now shows all packages associated with a non System catalog and upon doing rug install acroread libicu-32bit was correctly pulled in. There is a security update, which cannot be installed. I don't know why, maybe just some dependencies are wrong. This update came about two weeks ago. Telling me that there is no more support for a two week old security update (which probably will prevent installation of further acrobat security updates) is quite strange. I don't have the time to update to OpenSuse 10.3 in the moment, so I would prefer a working 10.2 The comments by Sitsofe sound like a workaround, but I don't have SLES and I don't have enough knowledge to play around with ZMD. The chances of finding the time to install 10.2 solely for this bug are sadly very remote. Do you still have rug on 10.2? If not you can probably still use zypper search 32bit and check to see whether the RPMs are in the right repo. However I was saddened to see this bug closed because although SUSE10.1 might be soon coming to EOL, openSUSE 10.2 has a rather longer period to go... Rashmi: As for zmd in SLES10SP1 being more stable... as someone who has purchased SLES10SP1 I am sorry to report that zmd is still unstable on SLES (although not quite as diabolical as it was in early SUSE10.1). A month doesn't go by without it locking itself up on at least one server which is a huge source of frustration.
