[Bug 748992] New: LIVE CD is slow (no swap/ram disk!)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=748992 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=748992#c0 Summary: LIVE CD is slow (no swap/ram disk!) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Live Medium AssignedTo: coolo@suse.com ReportedBy: nothereforever@hotmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.26) Gecko/20120128 Firefox/3.6.26 i have just got a copy of the latest offered 12.1 livecd, and i ran it. its somewhat tolerable, but during the setup, i may as well go have dinner after i click. it may have been faster to reboot the computer than to set the time (it complained about this just before it begins to install). its got no battery so it will probably complain again after a reboot... honestly, the machine has 400mb of ram - im sure it do some caching of the live cd. i was like 15 or so when i made my boot floppy, and it dumped everything into a ramdisk (6mb min), why cant you guys do that? i had it in an archive file and the drive was doing sequential reading. im sure you can copy sequentially from the CD to the ram, and then boot the OS. possibly the CD files can be kept compressed. it informed me about having less than 1GB of ram so you can probably keep 80mb compressed (assuming user has 128mb). later, cache the programs before they are run, and whole (small) files before they are accessed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: insesrt CD and wait, click. 15 minutes later... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
