[Bug 698247] New: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=698247 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=698247#c0 Summary: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: darin@darins.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=433053) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=433053) Kernel log from the crash User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1 I'm seeing this with some frequency on this server, once or twice per week, and I'm forced to reset afterward because it becomes unresponsive. I've references a bug very similar to this from opensuse 11.2 under the "additional notes. Every 5 minutes 4 cron jobs execute which perform "sftp" downloads from a remote system. There appears to be some correlation between these events and the kernel panics. I don't think so. You are hitting the races which I debugged and sent patches for few days ago. I also need to take a look if all patches for the races I caught some time ago are committed in 11.3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I would gladly give a patched kernel a try, but there are to download at the provided link.
Now fixed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is there anything else I can do to test this?
I don't think so, just keep an eye on it. I'll commit the fix later. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

A kernel update for SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP1 was just released that contains/mentions this fix. The release version is 2.6.32.43-0.4.1.
Great but when can a kernel update for OpenSUSE be expected? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
